Facebook has announced a new streamlined look for Facebook Pages and the News Feed. These changes are set to make it easier for users to find the information they want and help Facebook admins find the tools they use most.
New features include:
Updates to the News Feed
The desktop News Feed is getting a new streamlined look so that desktop and mobile will look the same. This comes on the back of last year’s planned redesign, which was not rolled out as trialists found it to difficult to navigate. This updated design keeps the new elements that users liked (larger photos and images), but keeps the familiar layout. In Facebook’s official announcement they said:
The updated design has the best of both worlds: it keeps the layout and navigation people liked, but offers bigger images and photos, as well as a new font. The current design on mobile remains the same.
Updated Page Timeline
Pages are also getting a makeover, with the new streamlined look finally signalling the end of the two-column feed. The new design means that posts will appear the same on Pages and in users News Feeds.
Whilst the right column of your timeline will now display all your Page’s posts (see image above), the left-side column will now feature information about your business including a map, your business hours, phone number and website URL, as well as any photos and videos.
Easier access to key admin tools
No matter where you are on your Page, you will soon be able to view information about the ads you’re running and new Likes on your Page, as well as unread notifications and messages. You will soon be able to click on any section in the ‘This Week’ section for more detail.
Facebook has also added new navigation options to the top of the Page, making it easier to access your activity, insights and settings. The Build Audience tab located at the top of the Page now offers direct access to your Ads Manager account.
Pages to Watch
The final feature of the redesign is called ‘Pages to Watch’. This feature enables Page admins to create lists that can quantify the performance and engagement stats of key competitors, partners or Pages similar to your own.
Stats about Pages you are watching will be visible on the ‘Overview’ tab of Page Insights. The ‘Posts’ tab will also include some new insights, showing the most engaging posts from the Pages you’ve been watching during the past week.
All these changes will be rolled out over the coming weeks. Let us know what you think of the new design and functionality in the comments.
