The past 10 years has seen a gradual decline in traditional “interruption” marketing. Customers don’t want messages pushed at them – they would rather find them on Google or get recommendations from friends.
This move from out-bound to in-bound marketing, combining Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), Search Engine Marketing (SEM) and Social Media Marketing, represents a radical shift in online marketing. This is inbound marketing and, to be successful, businesses in the 21st Century need to understand it.
It’s no longer sufficient for Marketing Teams to secure meager returns from advertising campaigns, or hope that customers stumble across the corporate website. Marketing Teams need to be creating and publishing high-quality online content – blog posts, videos, presentations, articles – that provide value to their readers without the hard sell. By becoming a hub of knowledge and useful information, organisations can generate trust and build the relationships that, when the content is really good, leads to word-of-month referrals – i.e. viral spread.
Social media is the key to this. Social networks offer three huge marketing benefits for business: they allow you to create opt-in lists of contacts they provide the communication channels to reach these contacts; and, crucially, they are free to use.
This isn’t rocket science – but without expert knowledge, it takes time to learn. Our Social Times can speed this process up so that your staff are running Inbound Marketing campaigns within a few weeks. Through a process of training workshops and consultation we can train your staff to understand inbound marketing and integrate it into their work practices. We will set out a clear strategy with goals and targets for ROI.
We have written a longer introduction to inbound marketing, that you may find useful. We also recently co-founded the London Inbound Marketing Meetup, which is a free, monthly meeting of Inbound Marketers where we share knowledge and ideas. We have also set up the Inbound Marketing Forum on LinkedIn. We strongly recommend you join these groups and participate. There’s always someone to answer your questions.
