It’s been a big year for Instagram – and its ending it on a high note.
The photo-sharing app has announced its monthly active user base has surpassed the 600-million mark. That’s an increase of 100 million users in just six months.
In the past year Instagram has unveiled a whole host of new features. Business Pages, Stories, Drafts, live video, URL links, updated safety tools and even a unified inbox with Facebook have all been rolled out this year.
It’s safe to say Instagram is ending the year as an almost unrecognisable app from the one that started it. Not quite a revolution perhaps, but certainly a rapid and significant evolution.
The last time the Facebook-owned app added 100 million users it took nine months. What new features they add to enable them to take even greater strides will become clear in the coming months.
“A lot has changed this year, but the Instagram community and the diversity of expression it provides has remained consistent,” the company said on its blog. “And you now have more ways to share than ever before with Instagram Stories, live video and disappearing photos and videos.”
