Tumblr appears to have been attacked by a hacker group called the GNAA
Tumblr, the microblogging platform, has been filled with offensive spam posts.
It appears that visiting a compromised page will in turn compromise your account, and this is creating a huge viral effect. According to Buzzfeed, The Daily Dot was one of the first blogs to be affected and its impressive global reach helped to spread the posts to thousands of other users.
Tumblr’s official Twitter account has confirmed there is an issue by publishing the tweet below:
We are aware that there is a viral post circulating on Tumblr. We are working to resolve the issue as swiftly as possible.Thank you.

In a further statement, Tumblr has advised anyone who has viewed the post to “log out of all browsers that may be using Tumblr immediately”. There does not appear to be any evidence to suggest that the hackers are stealing passwords, so as long as you are logged out you will remain unaffected, even if you view the post in question. If you do log-in, you are advised to only visit your dashboard and not to follow any links to other posts or other Tumblr’s.
Despite this, The Wall Street Journal suggest that for now, the smartest thing might be to stay off the site altogether. Let’s hope that the problem is fixed shortly.
Some screenshots of the posts and a theory as to how the GNAA have done this can be found on Buzzfeed.
