Instagram continues to grow rapidly and can now boast one million monthly active advertisers.
In announcing the news on its blog, the photo-sharing app suggests brands are flocking towards it because the Instagram ‘community rallies around passions’.
The Facebook-owned app had an impressive year in 2016 – growing more rapidly in one year than it had in the previous five. It announced towards the end of the year that its monthly active user base had surpassed the 600-million mark which indicated an increase of 100 million users in just six months.
Advertisers were bound to be attracted by the rapid userbase increase, and eight million companies currently have business profiles – with one million of these advertising on a monthly basis. That figure is up from 200,000 in just 12 months.
Furthermore, more than 120 million users visited a website, got directions, called, emailed or direct messaged to learn about a business via their Instagram profile.
As the company said on its blog: ‘People come to Instagram to follow their passions, from travel and fashion to food, entertainment and everything in between. And those passions extend to brands, with 80 per cent of Instagrammers following a business today.’
Intriguingly, Instagram is preparing to roll out an in-app booking service later this year – giving businesses the ability to add buttons to their profiles that will let users book an appointment or service.
