Trends can often present something of a dilemma for social media marketers – particularly because nobody really knows whether said trends are even going to materialise.
Do you spend time and resources becoming an early adopter and risk backing the wrong horse? Or do you sit back and let your competition take the plunge only to watch on as they reap the benefits at your expense?
Whether you stick or twist, you do at least need to know what cards are on the table. So to help you build up a picture of the likely social media developments to come in 2018, we’re sharing an infographic put together by the good people at Filmora.
Some of the trends Filmora are predicting have already made their presence felt in 2017 – namely video content and live streaming. Both are now a significant part of any brand’s social media strategy, and if they aren’t then they certainly should be in 2018.
Then there are slightly more left-field trends such as AI and augmented reality. AR is predicted to attract more spending than the currently more popular virtual reality by 2022, so you’d be well ahead of the curve if you began incorporating it into your strategy in 2018.
Ephemeral content, Generation Z, influencer marketing, mobile-ready content and messaging platforms are also set to break through in the coming year.
So take a look at the infographic below, then consider if any tweaks need to be made to your brand’s social media strategy.
